Uncle Eskimo's Ice-Cream Cafe

Today Tartu Kaubamaja can boast another lovely café. Uncle Eskimo's Ice-Cream Parlour welcomes clients with its great selection of ice-cream treats right next to the entrance opposite the Vanemuine Theatre. Uncle Eskimo was the first ice-cream industrialist in Estonia and a native of Tartu, who devoted his long and dignified life to making ice-cream. It is only natural that, instead of a statue in the town square, he dreamed of opening an eponymous ice-cream parlour, where people could really enjoy this ice-cold treat.

On his 100th birthday, Evald Rooma – who had been called Uncle Eskimo for 80 years by this point – entrusted Balbiino with his legendary recipes and secrets of making ice-cream, hoping that the old favourites could be enjoyed again… And he had no reason to be disappointed! Banana flavoured ice-cream dipped in real chocolate, made according to Uncle Eskimo's recipe, quickly became a favourite among the current generation, not to mention those ice-cream lovers who still remembered this timeless legend.

Uncle Eskimo's Ice-Cream Parlour is Balbiino's compliment to both the legendary ice-cream man himself and everyone who loves good ice-cream. All of the ice-creams in Uncle Eskimo's parlour are made from pure, locally produced cream. Milkshakes and good, strong coffee are also available. This ice-cream parlour was set up exactly the same way as in Uncle Eskimo's time – all in the name of pleasing people on both sides of the counter!
